THPO/Indigenous Knowledge & Lifeways

Preserving Cultural and Historic Places

The Pulikla Tribe’s Tribal Historic Preservation Office was established in 2021 to preserve, protect, and manage ceremonial, cultural, and historic sites within the Tribe’s reservation boundaries and the ancestral territory of the Yurok people.

Guided by Tribal Knowledge and Collaboration

The THPO works closely with the Tribal Council, Tribal staff, and Tribal Citizens, and collaborates with Tribal, federal, state, and local agencies, as well as private organizations. This work helps ensure Indigenous knowledge, lifeways, and sacred places are safeguarded for future generations.

The THPO’s work includes:

  • Managing and protecting Tribal cultural resources
  • Responding to Section 106 consultation requests
  • Monitoring ground-disturbing activities within Yurok Ancestral Territory
